True or false: Sawyer was willing to leave Jack behind

I couldn't answer that one because I couldn't decide if the question was, "What would Sawyer do?" or "What would the writers, who don't know their own characters, have Sawyer do?" The Sawyer we all know wouldn't leave Jack, of course. But I doubt the writers know that.

I meant what would Sawyer really do, I guess, if they let him hold true to what we know about him. Because if Sawyer DID actually leave Jack behind, well ARGH. I could never buy that. I do think they were showing us, with his daughter, that Sawyer swears up and down he doesn't care and then he turns around and (indirectly) shows that he does. So I still have faith that he didn't mean what he said.

Ah Desmond/Jack/Sawyer the one true triangle, serouisly all 3 of them in prison, w00t! I agree that he wasn't going to leave Jack, i'm still not convinced the kid is his. i've been told i don't trust cassidy cause i have a grudge against the name from another fandom *mutters*. *coughs* ok anyway i have to admit that sawyer strapped to that table is very good lost! (if you ignore the sawyer abuse and bring in jack). Still i feel like such a girl cause my main problem was the bunny abuse, i didn't care about the frog but i was so freaked out sawyer would hurt the bunny all week. yeah apperntly i also have issues with hurting bunnies and only bunnies cause benry is offically evil in my head. i did like the 8 on the bunnies but though, 8 is very much sawyers number. which reminds me, i am pissed off we didn't get sawyer questioned like Jack! I just wanted him to get all pissy when they ask about his family. hell i still want a freaking 'james' flashback! they could even have sawyer in it if the others drug him and his having some weirdo vision hallicantion type thing. ok um wow i rant about a lot of crap

Oh, I hadn't heard about the bunny before the episode -- I'd like to think that he wouldn't! Same as I'd like to think he wouldn't just abandon Jack. Especially now that they know he's still alive!

And mmm, Desmond/Jack/Sawyer -- too much hotness! *implodes*

I thought that Sawyer was going to leave Jack behind to go get others to help rescue him. Because he knows that Sayid was out there (supposedly) waiting to help them, and wouldn't it make more sense to get help from someone that would know what he is doing military planning wise? Plus the more numbers they could have against the superior foces of the Others, the better. This is someone who analyzes the potential cost and benefit of every situation and knows how to work situations to his advantage, after all. If Sawyer couldn't get help (such as he discovered they were on a different island), then I don't think he'd leave Jack without a fight. I'm probably way off base, as I was not entirely focusing on Lost as I was watching. (I know, what a sacrilege.)

Aha. I hadn't thought of that. It did seem like they were having him say he didn't care about Jack, but as we see, he says he doesn't care about his daughter (real or not) and then he sets up a huge bank fund for her, so obviously he doesn't mean what he says!

Anyway, that's my interpretation! There's being practical (leaving someone behind when you have no other choice) and being heartless (not even trying to find out if they can be saved.) I would suspect Sawyer might lean toward the first one but then again, he can be pretty damn reckless too. He's been brave and selfless on several occasions so I don't know why they keep trying to set him up as only out for himself. But I really do think that the parallel story about him finding out he has a daughter illustrated that he does care, he just doesn't want anyone to know.

I don't know about the whole Sawyer-leaving-Jack issue...I'd like to think that he would at least want to rescue him, but Sawyer tends to be pretty practical about survival most of the time. At the time he was all "forget Jack!", all of the stuff he said about them not knowing where Jack was or even if he was still around? Was true. I think at that point he felt they had a better shot just sticking to what they actually knew about and could do.
However, then they did see Jack. So maybe if the suggestion had come up again, he would have changed his mind and wanted to look for him? Since he then knew Jack was still alive and nearby?

Very good point. I can see Sawyer being practical (but also being a bit reckless, sometimes, especially if his own skin and on one else's is on the line). Seeing Jack, I don't think he'd suggest leaving him behind anymore.

Anyway, I'm interpreting the whole thing as "he doesn't mean what he says" because of the parallel story with his daughter, where he says he doesn't care and then he sets up that bank account for her.

I guess it's like Jack seeing Sawyer get shot with that dart and go to try to save Kate. You could see it as callousness or practicality. He can still save Kate, maybe, but not Sawyer, at that point, especially since Sawyer weighs too much for him to carry and run.
