Acronyms R Us...

When I see "HP," I immediately think of:

Harry Potter
Hewlett Packard
Harold Perrineau
H.P. Lovecraft
Hot Pockets

And when I see "DH," my first thought is:

Deathly Hallows
Desperate Housewives
Designated Hitter
D.H. Lawrence
David Hasselhoff

And oh, one more: "SS" stands for:

Severus Snape
Schutzstaffel (You know, those Nazi guys)
Camaro SS, Impala SS...
Sharon Stone?

Huh. I see "HP" and I think Harry Potter, but I see "DH" and think Desperate Housewives. Interesting.
Jul. 16th, 2007 03:17 am (UTC)
I still think "Hewlett Packard" first, except when I see it mentioned on my LJ but "DH," yep, I definitely think Desperate Housewives first too.
Jul. 16th, 2007 03:08 am (UTC)
Does this mean you're at "HP Overload"? ;)

SS... well, Sorceror's Stone. Duh. ;)
Jul. 16th, 2007 03:16 am (UTC)
Ha, well, I'm a fan, but not a diehard one. I'm not planning my life around the new book or film.

And I never even thought of Sorcerer's Stone! LOL. Which just shows how deep I am immersed in that world. Not very! I've read all the books exactly once and seen the films probably a few times.
Jul. 16th, 2007 03:13 am (UTC)
Clearly, ABC should be paying my brain royalties.
Jul. 16th, 2007 03:16 am (UTC)
LOL, you and me both! :)
Jul. 16th, 2007 03:25 am (UTC)
I feel bad because I really, really love the pairing, but I can't think of them when I see "SS". It sure doesn't make lide easier when I'm naming my WIP files (I'm a librarian at heart).

I'm not a Harry Potter fan, but thanks to fandom they've taken over the HP initials.
Jul. 16th, 2007 03:39 am (UTC)
Well, I have many "JS" icons and fic files names as such because you can't put a slash in the filename, I don't think, so my whopping 2 S/S fics, same thing. ;)

And HP is Harry Potter on LJ but Hewlett Packard anywhere else, for me.
Jul. 16th, 2007 05:58 am (UTC)
Horse power! See, I knew that HP had to mean something else to me outside of lj and fandom, especially considering I haven't read the Harry Potter books.

eh, don't know why I felt the urge to share that. Oh, improductive insomnia.

Re: HP=...
Aha, I knew there was an obvious choice I was overlooking! Dean Winchester would be ashamed of me!
Jul. 16th, 2007 03:48 am (UTC)
I guessed at a few of those, I have to say, the HP furor hasn't even begun I think, after that book comes out, it will be everywhere.

And still, I've never read one of them.
Jul. 16th, 2007 03:51 am (UTC)
I like the books but I'm not obsessed with them. My only real motive to get the last book when everyone else does is so I won't be spoiled. And I really should as someone spoiled me for the big spoiler in the last book! The same person who spoiled me about X-Men 3 and one of the big Lost spoilers. Dammit, I'm not talking to them until I get the book!
Jul. 16th, 2007 06:20 pm (UTC)
You've already been spoiled?! :(
Jul. 16th, 2007 11:20 pm (UTC)
No, not for this book, unless some random stuff posted at ONTD was correct. (And I'm hoping it's not.)

Jul. 16th, 2007 04:44 am (UTC)
Well, you're not the only one, I'm glad to say! (well, I'm glad I'm not the only one, I should say...). I have seen all the movies, but honestly, it's all a bit OTT for me. I keep forgetting the names of half the characters anyway! HA!
Jul. 16th, 2007 04:52 am (UTC)
I enjoy them but I never really got into the fandom side of things. *shrugs*
Jul. 16th, 2007 04:58 am (UTC)
No, it just doesn't do it for me either. The movies were fun, but I can't read books aimed at the pre-teen market any more, I need bit more! As for the slash, it seems a bit scary considering so many of the characters are so young! I do appreciate some are the adult characters, but none of them do it for me as much as the fandoms I do follow... and one has to draw the line somewhere, right? I mean... so much porn fic, so little time, as it is!
Jul. 16th, 2007 05:04 am (UTC)
Yeah, you and me both. Slashing Harry and his friends (or enemies!) isn't really my cup of tea. :-/ There's quite a lot of fic slashing the adult characters but I don't know, it's just not a universe I want to spend that much time in. But you can imagine how the magic gets used, LOL!

What can I say, the only fandom that really does it for me is Lost. Nothing else has ever grabbed me the same way.
Jul. 16th, 2007 07:03 am (UTC)
I can appreciate that... I'm kinda hooked into Lost too, although I have been elsewhere. Nothing seems to do it for me in quite the same way these days!

BTW, do you know who wrote that fic where Sayid got to video Sawyer & Jack in his club on the bed? I've seriously forgotten who wrote it (to my shame) but I need it next week!!! Oh, and on the same subject, do you remember one where Sawyer did a striptease next to a car for Sayid (I think)? Hmm, I think I'm losing my marbles...
Jul. 16th, 2007 11:20 pm (UTC)
I think those are both by gemjam. The threesome fic has the very unlikely title of "Homely" and I don't know the title of the other one.
Jul. 19th, 2007 11:54 am (UTC)
Oh thanks so much! I found them both now! I knew you'd know who's they were! I'm so pleased as I really need to rec them next week for something I'm working on! *Hugs* (love the icon, btw!)
Jul. 16th, 2007 04:31 am (UTC)
LOL! Too easy!

Sawyer/Sayid is S/Sd to me, though I don't really know how the rest of fandom would acronym that. (Can 'acronym' be a verb?)
Jul. 16th, 2007 04:36 am (UTC)
Darn it, no one is picking the "Hot Pockets" option. Admit it, "Hot Pockets and the Desperate Housewives" would be a good read! I'm going to have to go out and buy it or I won't be able to go near the Internet.

And Sawyer is S/Sd to me too, I guess, unless I'm naming an as-yet-untitled fic or an icon and then it'll be "ss_whatever."
Jul. 16th, 2007 04:36 am (UTC)
Ahem: Sawyer/Sayid is S/Sd
Jul. 16th, 2007 04:45 am (UTC)
What is a hot pocket anyway?
Jul. 16th, 2007 04:51 am (UTC)

A tasty, microwavable treat. I've never had one myself since I don't think any of them are vegetarian. They got mentioned a lot on the Ain't it Cool News Website. I kind of think it got mentioned on Buffy too but I'm not sure! ;)
Jul. 16th, 2007 04:55 am (UTC)
Ah, thanks! We don't get them here. I don't know "Ain't it Cool" and I haven't watched Buffy, so I guess I'm behind! Bt what the hey, I still wouldn't pick Harry Potter first... Actually, Hot Potatoes probably would have got me! But I just like to be different! ;-)
Jul. 16th, 2007 05:02 am (UTC)
AICN: http://www.aintitcool.com

Named after a line spoken by John Travolta in the John Woo movie "Broken Arrow," favorite site for geekboys of all stripes and known for their incoherently worded reports from advance audience screenings. I seem to recall discussions like, "I owe you a hot pocket" when someone would win a bet. Anyway, I used to go on there to discuss Buffy, pre-LJ! ;)
Jul. 16th, 2007 07:06 am (UTC)
Velly interesting, thanks! Am I the only person in the world who's seen Buffy, the original movie but never watched the TV show? Seriously?
Jul. 16th, 2007 05:28 am (UTC)
Hot Pockets totally gross me out. Srsly! The commercials are disgusting, they totally squick me!

Hot Pockets and the Desperate Housewives sounds like the name of some lame band!
Jul. 16th, 2007 05:38 pm (UTC)
That icon just make me giggle a little too much. Just what I needed!
Jul. 16th, 2007 11:21 pm (UTC)
Yay, we can all use a good giggle now and then. :)
Jul. 16th, 2007 06:21 pm (UTC)
DH is always Desperate Housewives to me, LOL. And you think HP=Hewlett Packard because you worked for them once, right?
Jul. 16th, 2007 11:22 pm (UTC)
Ha, no I never worked for Hewlett Packard. I do have an HP printer though. ;)
