Inception!

Who else has seen Inception and wants to talk about it? And the off-the-charts slash potential? And Tom Hardy? HI. I swear he sounded like he had a touch of a German accent in this.... just me? But yes, please, let's discuss! The friend I saw with had a different interpretation than I did.

My only complaint: I could NOT understand what Ken Watanabe was saying most of the time, he was so soft-spoken.

Seen it twice so far and is planning on seeing it again.

And the off-the-charts slash potential?

I'm torn I enjoyed both Arthur and Ariadne and Arthur and Eames...and Eames and Siato...and I somewhat slash Leo and Lukas Haas, but that's a whole other subject. I *loved* the Arthur and Eames relationship so much. I just wanted more scenes of them together.

In the Mombasa scenes I couldn't decipher what accent he was going for, then I found it to be almost like someone who was losing their accent--that he had traveled so much that his accent was an hybrid of accents.

The friend I saw with had a different interpretation than I did.

Of the ending or other things in the film?

I definitely want to see it again. And I'm obsessively listening to the music from the trailer.

I am SO about Arthur/Eames. And where Arthur kisses Ariadne... love! ;)

Yes! I love this interpretation! Works for me. (Also, he reminds me of Thomas Kretschmann, whom I find super, super hot. Perhaps that's why he sounded German to me.)

My friend and I disagreed about the ending. She thought it was real, I thought the fact that the kids were wearing the same clothes as in his dreams proved it couldn't be. And we disagreed about whether the spinning top was going to keep spinning or about to fall over. I agree with this person's theory, fwiw: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1375666/board/thread/166930700 (That Ariadne crafted a happy ending for Cobb, who was really stuck in limbo.)

BTW: Interview with Tom Hardy: He says he based his character on Chris Nolan himself:

(Which I kinda love)

I need inception icons!

Also, didn't the landing in LAX make you think of Lost... (were you still watching in S6?) It seemed too happy, too perfect. And yes, definitely filmed at LAX. ;)

And definitely the reason why I cried at the end of “Inception” the first time I saw it. It was just like a “Lost” scene. And even though it seemed to good to be true, I also thought that worked well within the concept of what is a dream, what is a reality. Yes, it seemed too good to be true, but what if it were true? That would be a big of a twist than if it were a dream because that is what the audience would expect: that it was a one big Jedi mind trick.

I’ve found two Arthur/Eames fics already---LJ better not disappoint with this pairing.

I believed it was real just for the fact that I wanted it to be not so much as that I’m slavish to the idea because it’ll be too cut and dry for it to be a real, but again, that could be the twist—that it is real.

The IMDB post is really, really, really convincing (actually I’m 98% accepting of it being limbo. Dileep Rao who played Yusef said to determine if it's real or a dream one has to trust their ears, not their eyes so I think the Cobb/Ariadne scenes holds the answers), but for me it all hinges on Cobb’s level.

IIRC, Ariadne only was crafting up to a certain point. I assumed Eames level was the final level of design since it housed the “safe” to Fischer’s subconciousness It’s only when Mal cocked it all up that they had to go further into Cobb’s psyche, so to me, that’s not Ariadne’s creation (although now that I’m thinking about it, I don’t recall she or Cobb using the serum to go down to that level whereas they had to have the serum to go down each level prior to that). But if the idea is that she did her own version of the inception by making the suggestion to Cobb to find Saito so that he can be with his family, then I’m convinced.

The IMDB post-er brings up

4. Adriane is the ONLY character in the levels who has SEEN Cobb's 4th level. That means there is NO WAY Saito could perceive that level.

I thought limbo could still be it’s a shared conciousness even if thought it’s a deeper state, so I can see them occupying the same perception. And how I saw it, it was Cobb (acting almost like Desmond, to continue the “Lost” comparsion) who awakened Saito that he was in a dream state by reminding him of what Saito said to him prior to dying. It was like a verbal kick to bring him out of that state and to a higher level of consciousness. Once realizing this to be a dream, Saito takes the gun and shoots himself and Cobb does the same. Or not. That’s the beauty of the ending. It could be anything.

Thanks for the Tom Hardy interview link. I met him at the premiere and if I could stay in a limbo state with him for 50 years I'd happily, happily do so.

Thank god for the internet! I've been craving really good discussions about the film and def. plan on seeing it again!

I don't think I even thought of that angle... I'm still puzzling it out and just kind of enjoying the afterglow. It's one of those movies that is so dense, you can't take it all in in just one sitting, I think.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who got echoes of Lost here -- not just the mind-bendiness but the LAX setting and the rest... I'm hearing that the emotional component was lacking for some viewers. Maybe just a tad... I did feel that I was outside the movie for a large chunk, either in a "wow" mode or "hmm, what's really going on here" mode. But I did get swept up in Dom's world. And Fisher's too. They really sold their happy endings there, I thought. (And wow, happy ending + Christopher Nolan! They do come with a twist/price, however.) And the ways it reminded me of Lost really deepened the experience for me. (Is it wrong to wish -- a little -- that Naveen had been cast instead of Dileep?)

And wow, so jealous you got to go to the premiere! And meet Tom! ;) Where you there just as a fan or for work? How was the live Hans Zimmer performance, did you see that? I watched a bit of it on the Inception site.

I've finally decided to just wait it out until I see it again. ONTD had a big discussion post on the ending and all the things that were thrown about were so convincing, but more complicated than than the film. I'm just going to bask in how incredible it was and how gorgeous everyone was in the film.

I'm hearing that the emotional component was lacking for some viewers. Maybe just a tad...

It's definitely more of a head over heart film, but for me, just like in "Lost", I responded to the united front and the sweeping music so when he "awakened" and his teammates were looking at him like, "You did!" and walking through LAX, I just lost it.

(Is it wrong to wish -- a little -- that Naveen had been cast instead of Dileep?)

Here's hoping for a role for Naveen in a big blockbuster. He deserves it and I deserve to see him looking hot on the big screen.

Where you there just as a fan or for work? How was the live Hans Zimmer performance, did you see that

Strictly as a fan. I didn't attend the charity event w/t the Hans Zimmer/Johnny Marr performance :( but it was a massive to-do. I think they held it in the same space they do the Jimmy Kimmel outdoor concerts because everyone walked aross to the Jimmy Kimmel Theatre.

I've not seen it yet, but I'm planning to, and already feeling slash-happy. Can't wait!

Go, see! More attractive men assembled in one film.... can't think of anything to top it, off the bat.

And ha, your icon. Did you hear the story of how Nic Cage took mushrooms with his cat? (I saw only the headline but he claim that's what he did.)

Your icon...Out of Sight? *seriously loves*

Inception is on my list - several people I know have seen (and been blown away by) it!

Oh good, you must see it! Soon! :)

That is an Out of Sight icon -- I needed one of someone w. eyes closed! Until I get some Inception icons, that is.

I'm going to see it this week, I think I was the only person who wanted to see it for Tom Hardy alone. He has a very deep voice to begin with so his accent can sound different sometimes. There is slash in them thar hills..now I can't wait!!!

You will love it! :) Madly crushing on Tom Hardy more than ever! Not to oversell it, but the cast is so damned attractive I'd be happy to pair up just about any one of them with anyone else. (Marion Cotillard is also amazing. She's becoming one of my favorite actresses.)

LOVE TOM HARDY, see if you can see the movie Stuart a Life Backwards, he's not hot in it, he's actually heartbreaking, but he's wonderful in it.

I adore Marion, her and her boyfriend Guillaume are one of my favorite couples, he's one of my favorite French actors, totally adorable, and really good too.

I saw it yesterday and it was 3 against 1 (me!) who said that Leo's character was awake at the end.

I really enjoyed it, even if I think I should see it again to understand it better. Everyone was good, and I didn't know this Tom Hardy before, but I LIKED. YUM.

saw it in French: dubbing made Ken Watanabe understandable *thumb up*

I'm with you, hon! ;) TOM HARDY = love. He was also in RockNRolla and Layer Cake. Plus, you know, inthekeyofd has been posting about him for ages. Now she has to share him with us.

And that's the upside of dubbing, eh?
