For fans of Edward Gorey and Lost

I was reacquainting myself with Edward Gorey, particularly his delightfully macabre Gashlycrumb Tinies, in which Victorian children all meet with horrible ends. (I used to have it memorized!) And since I have Lost on the brain, look at these three. Someone more creative than I could do a whole Lost parody, I guess but there's too many "J" and "S"s for one.

Part of the charm of these is that they rhyme, so Kate is followed by "Leo, who swallowed some tacks."

Icons, anyone? Kate haters would love the "K" one but ouch, so harsh! (And by the way "A" is for Amy here. Way ahead of you!)

ETA: How appropriate- it is thundering and lightning here very dramatically. I've *never* heard thunder so close!

Wow, that is so morbid and eerily intriguing.

Not for every taste but he has a taste for the morbid, definitely! He also did a lot of illustrations of cats that are much more whimsical. I love his pen and ink style and all his odd little books. Several of them were collected and republished as "Amphigorey" if you want to look for that.

(And I added a link above to a Wikipedia article on him.)

Is it wrong that I giggled? I even went hunting for the entire thing and I still giggled when I read it.

Is it wrong that I like the K one..sorry, but hopefully this season she'll keep out of others business more..but from what we've seen so far, I'm not counting on it. *smile*

We'll see - I don't think the writers know or care that Kate is annoying. I mean, look at how bratty they let Charlie get. They're clearly not too concerned that we're going to turn on these characters.

I admit I found "K" highly amusing. That would make an excellent icon. lol

I don't have Kate anger. I don't have Kate anger. I don't have - okay maybe just a smidge.

Someone's going to make one now, I'm quite sure. I just downloaded the font so maybe I can fudge it to make one for the character I *really* want to be done in with an axe!

Oh if only I could find the right font, it would be so much fun to make Gorey/Lost icons!

Oh, but there ARE fonts:

I might do some searching among my Gorey books for Lost character prototypes. I'll be sure to scan and share. ;-D The Curious Sofa should be most useful!

The Gashlycrumb Tinies! Those things cracked me the hell up....even though he was killing off small children in the most gruesome ways. Hee hee.

I'll try to make some icons tonight.....I wanted to make some Halloween icons anyways and these would be perfect-o.

Yay! Halloween icons! You could almost do a whole 'creepy Lost moments' set.

I looked through my Gorey books and nothing too Lost-like sprang forth. Except this - omgpolarbear!

And did you see there's fonts! (points up) -- in case you wanted to go whole hog.

Hee. It's definitely the most gruesome of the bunch and a fate I'd rather wish on some other Lost characters first.

Heeheee! Love it! :)

I have a tiny little metal Gashlycrumb Tinies lunchbox that I absolutely adore, and keep it right next to the book in its own special spot on the shelf.

Gah, I had some Gorey icons around somewhere... I should pluck one out for the season.

Awwww, Gorey love! I think most people know of his cat stuff, at least. (Especially the cat fanciers! ;-D)

I was feeling very Halloweeny, it's finally cool here in LA, so I went and found some icons. I was looking through my Gorey books for characters that might double as Lost types (wot? Just a little obsessed, LOL) and no good matches. Until all the men on Lost start sporting barbership mustaches and the women get Victorian buns or flapper bobs!

Now you've got me sitting here trying to remember where I first heard of Gorey, and I'm drawing a blank. *pokes idle brain cells* I wouldn't be surprised if it was the cats. Coax ya in with the innocuous felines, then--wham!--absurd bears and penguins and death, oh my.

Until all the men on Lost start sporting barbership mustaches

Ah, if only Viggo was on the show. ;P Hey, there's always flashbacks. To, um, past lives? Hatch!food-induced hallucinations?
