The Other 48 Days

Dammit, they totally had me going with Goodwin. Of course we knew he was doomed and kept thinking "Man, when's he gonna get it? Ouch!" And also, "Wow, I like him. Why couldn't we get HIM instead of Ana Lucia?" And of course with Nathan being from "Canada" it only cemented our suspicion of him and away from Goodwin.

The actor who played Goodwin looked really familiar. Must go look him up. And what is Goodwin's story? So it was his knife and he's ex-military? Is he affiliated with the Dharma Initiative? And wtf glass eye?

So after all this, when the raftees show up, Ana sees another ploy. And another Goodwin in Sawyer. He's too good looking to trust! (But how would she explain him having a gunshot wound since as far as they know, no one on the island has guns? Not likely to shoot himself to escape detection so ... yeah, that doesn't add up. Clearly there's someone else after our heroes, if she'd just stopped to think about it, or asked for a more detailed explanation.)

I liked this ep. Didn't love it. Kept waiting for *our* characters to show up, honestly. And it was a lot to pack in. The music and the quick edit style at the end was kind of annoying.

Mr. Eko is still eight kinds of cool. Even if his waiting to speak until she cried was SOOO FUCKING CHEESY! Nice moment other than that, but I really had to roll my eyes at that line. CHEESE!

Ana Lucia is still a bitch, even if she does know how to cry. She was *very* quick to "turn savage," justified or not. And I understand her. Just don't LIKE her.

If Libby is faking it, she's done a much better job than Goodwin.

I guess that's it. Onto next week. FINALLY.

And I've already flailed and squeed over the promo! SKATE!!!

Dude, Eko went savage way quicker than Ana.

*Still needs an Eko icon...and a Libby icon!*

Libby is my new favorite person, I SWEAR. XD "Lost my edge..." *SNAP* "broke my left leg!"

(And I don't think he was waiting for her to cry before he spoke...not what I got from the scene. More like, this was the first time he saw a good reason to speak. Or something like that.)

*fixes typos*

Well, that scene rocked, just the line was cheesy. He totally rocks. Tough *and* tender.

Yeah, he did go savage first, didn't he? At least in the couture department. ;-D But he was only acting in self defense. (She was being more strategic - again, not blaming, just pointing out.) He was still compassionate. He was feeding Nathan, not threatening to cut off his fingers. She's the Sayid of the bunch - willing to do the "dirty" work and apparently not having many qualms about it.

Anyway, I don't hate her. Just don't like her. Never will. Eh. And STAY AWAY FROM JACK! ;-D

Guess all that Libby spec was way off. Unless she's a really deep plant.

He seemed SO freaked out about it, too. *Shudders*

Ana's behavior only re-enforces my belief that she's ex-military or an army brat.

I've actually been spoiled about her past occupation. Darn Lost-Media and their promo pics on the front page!

I love Libby and after last night, I think I fell in love with Mr. Eko a little too. Now that is a back story I am dying to see.

I was really looking forward to this episode and was a little disappointed that we didn't learn more about the Others.

I was already loving Mr. Eko. He's just awesome. There's more to Libby than that scared tagalong and I'm sure we'll find out more soon.

Yeah, I didn't love the ep. I just saw it as a placeholder, really, until we get to next week and the fallout from *last* week. And of course saving Sawyer's life, which has only been an issue for six months now!

Oh, yes. Right there with you on loving Libby. Even if she's not an Other (I thought I saw her in the water, but there's a weird theme with the Others and wearing beige that these writers are just twisted enough to call a clue), she could still go crazy so easily. I adore it.

Of course we knew he was doomed and kept thinking "Man, when's he gonna get it? Ouch!" And also, "Wow, I like him. Why couldn't we get HIM instead of Ana Lucia?"

YES, again! In retrospect, the tiny clues we were given with him using the Peace Corps as his cover story-very out of date, as Ana pointed out-were some damned good writing. Right up there on par with the sly visual clue of Nathan setting up a rabbit snare. The writers can be so good when they want to.

I need to hunt up an Eko icon, or at the very least a Libby one.

Libby could go either way, I agree. She's seemed so doelike before, but the snapping of the broken leg was kind of twisted. Definitely more to her than meets the eye, which is really the Lost theme song, isn't it?

The whole opening was like a replay of the original pilot - almost a parody really, down to the "No, let ME" do the mouth to mouth.

You're right, very good writing on the whole Goodwin mislead. And beware the khakis! Are they ALL wearing military clothes then? So there's a military presence, in addition to the Dharma initiative? Desmond's jumpsuit was blue, right? (And I bet you *someone* will write Goodwin/Desmond slash somewhere, heh.)

Yeah, I took some Eko icons but his name is spelled three different ways so ... *is in a quandary* LOL.

♥ agree twelve ways to Sunday with you...the Ana/Eko moment didn't really do much for me at all. I mean, how could it, when all I keep thinking about her is 'stone cold killer'. Yeah, yeah, you had excuses...I just don't care.

Best moment? Eko laying the smackdown. Hey, she asked.

Oh, Eko, you PWN the Lost fandom right now. *twiddles thumbs waiting for fic explosion that is sure to come*

I really think Goodwin looked alot like Sean Bean. Maybe that's who you're thinking of?

Oh, I liked the Ana/Eko moment, just not that line. ;D He's just great. When she first started to cry I was like, "Please. You're trying to get us to like her. Fat fucking chance." But him cradling her made up for the fact that it was *her,* I think, if that makes sense.

I looked Goodwin up. Actor named Brett Cullen. He's been on Desperate Housewives and a few other shows but none of his credits made me go "Aha!" He does look a little like Sean Bean. No wonder I thought he was hot! ;-D

OMG, is it next week yet?

I'm convinced the waiting 40 days to speak was biblical. 40 is a very biblical number, and we already know Lost likes to make with the references to biblical things, so that's my take on it.

I'm not very religious, but I do recall the idea that 40 days is a cycle, and I think that's was what Mr. Eko was doing - waiting for the next cycle to start over again.

You know, Mr. Eko may even be a priest/holy man of some kind. With the suit wearing, taking care of the dead properly, and the 40 days. Alone, they don't point in that direction but putting them all together just might. It's a theory anyway. Heh.

I agree! I wrote something to that effect in my review -- also, at the beginning, he said he would pray for the girl to be reunited with her mother. And the way he held the Bible that they found in the hatch bunker.

Awesome! I'm glad I wasn't the only one that got that idea from it. And I had even forgotten the parts you mentioned, so that does make it all the more likely.

The whole 40 days thing made me think of Lent *removing technicalities* when you give something up for 40 days (usually before Easter) and reflect upon things you've done wrong, etc.,.

It's also the length of time said to break a habit.

I kind of hope Eko isn't a priest and he's more like Charlie -- a guy who was raised in religion, but went elsewhere in life. I did find it interesting that Eko reminded me of Rose. The prayer, the positive energy, the silence, the influencial choice words. I love that guy.

Veddy interesting. I'd much rather know Eko's backstory at this point than Ana Lucia. He really is a "mysterious island man." LOL. And just damn cool.

But if he is a priest, they maybe they weren't a couple and she's going to be on the prowl for our boys! :-(

I loved it for no other reason than the atmosphere alone...we had our island back.... And a whole fresh set of group dynamics. I'm intrigued to see the power struggles that ensue when the two camps meet up. I am NOT looking forward to SKate, especially if they play her out the way they did in the promo. Sawyer's gonna need that ballsy nurse Kate from (pimp) Game Plan(http://www.livejournal.com/users/alliecat8/31065.html), not some drooling sentimental scmoop crying on his head. Otherwise he'll end up playing up his vulnerabilities for all he's worth, just to get them to show him some attention for a change. Hypochondriac!Sawyer could get very old after a while, but I'll bet he'll try to get away with it every chance he gets. He probably figures they owe him a lot after all he's been through and even though he's right, he'd be better off trying to earn their respect rather than their pity.

Oops, didn't see this comment before. Darn LJ!

Awww, I like my Skate but I prefer my J/S and my OT3!!

But clearly I don't really care about new group dynamics if they involve you-know-who.

I swear I feel so bad for the other survivors who are from Canada! Or any of them who have a name that ends with "than" but you know, he just had this weird affect that should have been a red light for them, and exactly how many of them are there, because they seem to be everywhere all the time.

Ana crying would have been a little more convincing if there were actual tears..but that's just me.

Eko rocks so freakin' hard, you know, betweent he twists this show takes and the residual creepiness from the character of Adebisi on Oz, I'm still a little on guard with him, but by now the character is pretty much established.

I think he's a good man (plus that is why the wanted to take him as well as the fact that he's big enough to kick some serious ass) but he will go OFF on anyone that threatens the other survivors or himself..which I really don't think is a bad thing.

Eko is fantastic. Can't wait to see HIS backstory. They picked the wrong tailaway to feature first.
