Shiny new comm: the_eighties

In case you missed my previous post, I started a new comm for '80s music lovers like myself.

Come, join! Although now I think maybe I should have called it "big_hair." LOL. ;-) Thanks to everyone who's already joined!

May. 24th, 2006 03:39 pm (UTC)
Sure! My personal taste is more on the new wave side but the more the merrier!

I was always very much into rock and glam and being a teenager in 90s was frustrating, lol.
*uses her only music related icon*

I missed the ETA to that post, but OH HELL YEAH, I'm joining..oh my god, I loved the eighties..16 Candles has been on all the time lately, and while I may like The Breakfast Club, 16 Candles is my favorite all time movie by that teen-angst genius John Hughes!!!!!
May. 24th, 2006 03:40 pm (UTC)
What, you didn't go back and read an amended post that was originally posted at 3 am? LOL.

And yeah, welcome! Gotta love those movies! I joined that 80s_icons comm and they have a lot of great Breakfast Club icons there!

I have to join that community now...I swear I miss that time so much, being a teenager then was just so much fun..okay, it was still angsty, but at least we had good music and great movies!!!

I so want one from 16 Candles after the "hair cut from hell" with the caption..bad hair day.*smile* And let's not forget, John Cusack was one of the geek posse too!!
May. 24th, 2006 01:01 pm (UTC)
And of course love the music too..when U2 was considered alternative.
May. 24th, 2006 03:41 pm (UTC)
Too true! LOL. I have a friend who only listens to stuff from the '60s and he considers U2 a "new" band. I was like, "they've been around more than 20 years!" Ahhh, some people can't appreciate good music!
May. 24th, 2006 01:24 pm (UTC)
Oh! This is awesome!

May. 24th, 2006 03:40 pm (UTC)
Yaay! ;-)
May. 24th, 2006 03:54 pm (UTC)
Yay! I'll be joining! OK, what was your favorite band? I was a Duran Duran girl, myself.
May. 24th, 2006 05:20 pm (UTC)
Yay! (Did you see all my '80s music vic icons too?) I was all about Sting, myself. And Bono and INXS. But I had every beat of "The Reflex" video memorized. Good times!
May. 24th, 2006 05:44 pm (UTC)
Mmmm, I was a big fan of all of your faves, too. I saw INXS on the tour for Listen like Thieves and it was a religious experience. I'm completely grossed out that they have some new kid singing with them. Nobody can replace Michael Hutchence.
May. 24th, 2006 06:01 pm (UTC)
Oh man, I agree. No one can replace Michael Hutchence. I just about wore out my copy of "The Swing." And you know, I never saw them live because I suffered from a severe case of "if they're playing arenas I don't want to see them." So I've never seen U2 live. Or Simple Minds or so many other of my faves. Or The Police! *cries* Oh well, I've seen lots and lots of bands so I'm good.
May. 24th, 2006 06:15 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I got lucky and saw INXS at a theater rather than an arena. I never saw them again after that because of the arena thing. I just finally saw U2 on this last tour. I gave in. I felt it was kind of a sin to have never seen a band that I've loved throughout their entire career. They give good arena, though, so it was still fun.

I never saw the Police, either. Wah! I went and saw Sting a couple of summers ago, but mostly because Annie Lennox was opening. I worship at the altar of Annie and am powerless to stay away if she's playing nearby.
May. 24th, 2006 06:49 pm (UTC)
I got invited to see Sting at the Gorge but the invitee was this bizarre guy and I didn't want to be stuck with him during that long, long drive! So I passed. :-/ And I've never motivated enough on my own. Annie Lennox is amazing but also have never seen her live.

Let's see, who have I seen? Thompson Twins, Nick Cave (many times), Robyn Hitchcock, Billy Bragg, The Chameleons, Skinny Puppy, Cowboy Junkies, Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Bowie (at the Tacoma Dome!), Echo & the Bunnymen, Love & Rockets, Midnight Oil ... so I can't complain!
May. 24th, 2006 05:53 pm (UTC)
Hey, did you watch the Alias finale? Sark was delicious. I will miss him doing evil deeds and complaining about ruining his $500 shoes. Yum.
May. 24th, 2006 06:03 pm (UTC)
No. :-/ I'd long since given up on Alias. This season, I watched the opener and the ep with Will (my favorite) but I had no idea what else was going on anymore. The old magic just wasn't there. (Thank you, S3 for ruining the show!) And I didn't want to miss the 24 finale, which it was up against. I haven't really heard what happened - I started reading a synop at TWOP but even that didn't make much sense!
May. 24th, 2006 06:12 pm (UTC)
Joined! I love 80s music (and early 90s too)
May. 24th, 2006 06:45 pm (UTC)
Yaay! Me too. I have playlists set up in my iTunes by decade and both the '80s and '90s get a lot of spin. And a lot of my fave '90s bands (Soundgarden, for one) really started in the '80s. So a little bleeding over is fine with me! ;-)
