The way she is able to juggle a large cast of characters should be a lesson to the show itself. The characterizations are dead on and the group and individual dynamics also ring completely true. We get so many different non-sexual interactions we never get on the show, like Sawyer-Claire in Claire's War or Kate-Boone in Making Do. It's like finding water in the desert.
I had read Claire's War ages ago and loved it. The concept is nuts, a series of drabbles based on titles of Babylon 5 episodes, of all things(!) but it plays out so wonderfully, with all the Lostaways banding together to rescue Claire. This is what should have happened on the show!
Making Do has just become one of my favorite Lost fics ever. I missed it when it was posted back in November. Beautifully written, it's a heartbreakingly realistic look at how the island's residents have paired off and whether those pairings will last. It's mostly Jack-Boone and I heartily recommend even if you don't like that pairing. Because it's so done so well, you can believe it's the story of "an obviously straight man and his obviously gay boyfriend." After Kate chooses Sawyer, Boone is there for Jack. They bond over their bad fathers and it goes on from there. But later on, when Kate and Sawyer seem on the verge of breaking up, what will happen with Jack and Boone?
yahtzee63 seems to be writing mostly Alias fic lately (hmmm, Jack/Will!) and I look forward to reading those, too.
