Fanfic Authors Appreciation Week Pick #4

Today I am rec'ing yahtzee63, based on two amazing Lost fics, Claire's War and Making Do.
The way she is able to juggle a large cast of characters should be a lesson to the show itself. The characterizations are dead on and the group and individual dynamics also ring completely true. We get so many different non-sexual interactions we never get on the show, like Sawyer-Claire in Claire's War or Kate-Boone in Making Do. It's like finding water in the desert.

I had read Claire's War ages ago and loved it. The concept is nuts, a series of drabbles based on titles of Babylon 5 episodes, of all things(!) but it plays out so wonderfully, with all the Lostaways banding together to rescue Claire. This is what should have happened on the show!

Making Do has just become one of my favorite Lost fics ever. I missed it when it was posted back in November. Beautifully written, it's a heartbreakingly realistic look at how the island's residents have paired off and whether those pairings will last. It's mostly Jack-Boone and I heartily recommend even if you don't like that pairing. Because it's so done so well, you can believe it's the story of "an obviously straight man and his obviously gay boyfriend." After Kate chooses Sawyer, Boone is there for Jack. They bond over their bad fathers and it goes on from there. But later on, when Kate and Sawyer seem on the verge of breaking up, what will happen with Jack and Boone?

yahtzee63 seems to be writing mostly Alias fic lately (hmmm, Jack/Will!) and I look forward to reading those, too.

Damn, you beat me to it! But, yeah, 'Claire's War' in particular is just so, so good. She's a multifandom wonder.

Sorry! (ducks)

Guess it's bound to happen. Yesterday foxxcub and I both rec'd Ada Farrow. And because she also rec'd cmere1 already, should I not? These are the incestuous rec questions of the week! ;->

Yeah, Claire's War is great but I had to go on more about the other fic because I just read it for the first time today and it was LOVE! Love, love, love.

Say, that's gotta be Sawyer's torso, right? Sigh. It's unspeakably hot.

Hee! Oh, you're fine, I was being facetious. I'll probably rec her later in the week for some of her work in 'Angel' fandom (like I said: Multi. Fandom. Wonder.).

And yes, that is Sawyer's torso. And what a lovely torso it is.

Hee. Go, spread the yahtzee love.

For her and others, I mostly just read Lost stuff. But if I like a writer I'm much more likely to follow them into another fandom.

She's writing Jack/Will?? OMG, I have to get over to her LJ. That is my Alias OTP and no one writes it.

Making Do is an awesome fic.

I've got to check that out too! Jack and Will are two of my fave Alias characters. Bring back Will! ;->

I haven't read a lot of Alias fic but there was a good Sydney/Will futurefic over at Crack Van the other day. Very nice but sad.

Claire's War is amazing. I was in awe the first time I read it a while back and I just reread it and was awed again.

Yeah, so much fanfic seems to be about romance. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it makes really good gen ones hard to find! Or maybe I'm not looking in the right places. But this one is just great.
