Lost spoiler

Rodrigo Santoro tells Rolling Stone that Paulo's going to be killed off. YAY! I don't know why they even brought him on at all. Totally pointless. Good riddance, dude. Maybe they can plan better next time and give some screen time to existing characters instead of bringing in people just to be killed off?

I agree. It's just pathetic now how the only people they can kill off are the new people they bring in. It's like, they want the cred for creating new characters and they want the cred for consistently killing characters, and yet both notions are just such a joke.
Here's a suggestion. Kill off Charlie. He's completely useless.

Totally pathetic. Me, I'd prefer if they kill off Claire. Charlie has had his moments, he and Hurley make a good team sometimes. But all that "My bay-beeeee!" wailing is so annoying. It's sad, but there are maybe only four or five characters I care about anymore.
Jan. 12th, 2007 08:02 pm (UTC)
Dude. I totally forgot about him until now.
Jan. 12th, 2007 08:57 pm (UTC)
Ha. He is pretty darn forgettable. Perhaps he has some meaty scenes coming up, but I don't get the point of adding him. Apart from Eko and Desmond, all the new characters have been a total washout. Including The Others. I really hope if the show makes it to S4 they don't add any more new characters, for once!
Jan. 12th, 2007 08:06 pm (UTC)
I'm caught somewhere between not caring and wondering why they keep bringing in knew people if they're just gonna axe in the end? The new characters are the ones that tend to die the fastest. Maybe that should tell somebody something, huh?
Jan. 12th, 2007 08:55 pm (UTC)
I don't know why they bother with the new characters if they go nowhere. I really don't. I wonder what they think they're accomplishing, other than turning viewers off.
Jan. 12th, 2007 08:20 pm (UTC)
I had seen that, but I didn't wan to spoil you. Apparently, his contract had been short term from the beginning, though if that's so I don't quite see the point. It's as if they created a character simply to kill him, without even attempting to make us care one way or another. It's been a while since I've been in sync with the direction of the show of course, but I find this whole thing with Rodrigo beyond confusing. But, what the hell, kill him off and let's move on. Maybe they'll refocus on characters we care about. *yeah, right*
Jan. 12th, 2007 08:40 pm (UTC)
I saw there was a spoiler about his character and since I don't care, I clicked. Maybe we'll be spared a pointless backstory this way? Eh, who knows? It seems like they like bringing in new people just because they've run out of ideas with the existing characters' backstories. We could help! Seriously, I think we could all suggest more interesting events for them to focus on.

And yes, let's kill him off and move on. Of course, it'll probably just be to the next annoying, pointless new character. It just kills me that they keep finding new people on a supposedly deserted island. It's not like it's a NYC squad room or a busy hospital ER. No one tunes into the show thinking "Ooh, I hope we see some new characters!" As I've said before, the reasonable place to do that is really the backstories. Although... Bai Ling. *kaff* Maybe the casting agent just wants to get laid a lot?
Jan. 12th, 2007 08:46 pm (UTC)
Oh, I guess the new castaways are meeting the same fate as the tailies..*sigh* This show is kind of out of control now.

Plus, though, Rodrigo does have a film career, so that could be the real reason..and he is in "300" as well, so he may have to leave the set to do press and stuff.
Jan. 12th, 2007 08:54 pm (UTC)
They should just put the newbies on a treadmill, leading to the slaughterhouse. :-/ Pointless! Like we're going to care if they live or die.

And yes, I saw he was in 300 as well. I'm sure that'll be a bigger career boost!
Jan. 12th, 2007 08:58 pm (UTC)
Who? Lol! What are you doing reading spoilers?!

Why do they even hire jokers like this anyway? It's so annoying. That and stunt casting.
Jan. 12th, 2007 09:00 pm (UTC)
Well, this one was obviously only about Paulo, so of course I don't care about anything involving him. And hey, it was good news! I still don't know why they bothered with his character. Or any of the new characters, really. Still trying to work that one out.
Jan. 12th, 2007 08:59 pm (UTC)
...yeah, I'm starting to get the impression that I won't be watching Lost for much longer, at this rate :-/
Jan. 12th, 2007 09:02 pm (UTC)
It sucks. As long as Sawyer and Jack are on, I want to watch, but there's so much other nonsense going on, it's hard to stick with it. And now that they've mucked up the Jack Thailand episode, I'm not looking forward to that anymore. Darn it! Sucks.
Jan. 12th, 2007 09:38 pm (UTC)
I'd prefer Rodrigo go than Josh. The only good thing about bringing in new people to off them is you worry less about the ones you already kinda love.

But then, maybe this is a "foiler" or something.

Hope he goes at least doing something USEFUL for once.
Jan. 12th, 2007 09:59 pm (UTC)
Oh, i Josh left, I really would stop watching. No question.

I don't see why they need new people all the time. They had 14 regulars to start with. And if they really had wanted to tap the "red shirts," they could have worked it out in a much better way.

Heh. Paulo will probably go in a "What's this?" kind of way, in other words, very stupidly blowing himself up or something. And then I will laugh. There's no way the death of some random character is going to be remotely meaningful.
Jan. 12th, 2007 09:46 pm (UTC)
Oh, for Christ's sake. I give up. I'm there for Desmond, and I don't want to do meta or think about this show any longer. Not because I'm just terribly attached to Paolo-I'm not, I'm just amused by him-but because Damon and Carlton don't get it and clearly intend to spend the rest of their lives thinking that the big epiphany-shaped things that are repeatedly beating against their heads are just mosquitoes. While the show continues to lose another four million viewers a year until it's inevitable cancellation. I could outline why I'm upset here, but really, just take my reaction to every single other death and it's subsequent mishandling save for Boone's and fill in the blank.
Jan. 12th, 2007 09:57 pm (UTC)
My "happy" mood isn't quite right. :-/ But I guess I've already had my breaking point with the show, in terms of losing faith with them and the choices they've made. So I'm just happy if they're recognizing mistakes earlier and trying to fix them before they drag on for a whole season. Except that that's not what they're doing, is it? Anyway, no more Paulo is definitely a good thing, even if it all ends up being completely pointless.

I really would love to walk into that writers' room and outline all the things they've been doing wrong and just why they're losing viewers. Seriously, if you or I or just about any invested fangirl told them why we're so frustrated, you'd think they'd listen, right? And stop all that b.s.? But instead they're blaming the time slot and moving out of the way of American Idol. Not a good sign. They really are intent on a kamikaze course. Viewers be damned.

I've seen this spoiler and the only respond I have to it-meh.But I seriously don't understand why bring in new characters, make lots of noise about them and then just kill them off. What is it good for?I am at the point I don't really care anymore,I guess.I still love Jack and Sawyer and want to find out what happened after 3x06 ended, but I can't say I'm excited...

Btw,Michelle Rodriguez is coming back for a cameo later this season,if you missed that spoiler.
Jan. 13th, 2007 12:09 am (UTC)
Oh great, another episode to skip! I may wait to hear what goes on and then watch later. I'm not at all excited for 3.07, not being a fan of Juliet. I'm pretty unspoiled but then again, I don't really care either. On the one hand, you hate to ruin whatever surprises are coming up but then again, the latest surprises aren't always that great. If it's something I don't care about at all, like killing off characters I have no interest in, then I'm all for it, of course. And since my only reaction when it happens will be a shrug, being spoiled doesn't matter.

I love Jack and Sawyer too: now please have them in a scene together. While we're young! I have liked individual scenes here and there this season, but as a whole ... not so much.

I feel so dumb. We have this student worker in my office who is from Mexico, and he started talking to me about Lost the other day. I mentioned Rodrigo, but I couldn't remember his name--I ended up calling him Gael Garcia Bernal! I kept saying, "Oh, he's a big star in Brazil," and my student worker kept correcting me, saying, "No, no he's from Mexico!" LOL, I was so confused.

At this point, why even bother bringing in new island characters? No one is going to take them seriously anymore; everyone is just going to assume that they'll just bite the dust in a matter of episodes. I makes me feel used, even if I've never cared about the "new" characters that much, anyway (except Eko, you know I always like him, heh). BLAH. Lost, I love you, but you fucking try my patience sometimes.
Jan. 12th, 2007 11:45 pm (UTC)
I don't feel like posting on this, so I'll just ramble here LOL:

So many people at work have made the comment to me in regards to Lost about how they don't care anymore; either they could never understand it, or they're so damn lost they have no idea where to start to get back into it. And these are casual viewers! I don't blame them one bit, and I think it's a bad, bad sign for this show. It's one thing to cultivate the attitude that this is a "cult show", but you're not a cult show when you once averaged 17 million viewers a week. If the show had started on Fox or something and gradually built a following, a la The X-Files, then making casual viewers frustrated wouldn't be a big deal, it would be EXPECTED. But for a show that right out of the gates nabs the viewers, the critics, and its own place in pop culture only to slowly slip into some kind of obscure, frustrating oblivion at the hands of its creator (also a la The X-Files, then that is simply a sign of shark-jumping.

Okay, I'm done now. :P

I've been thinking lately just how bored I am with the show. I think the only reason I still watch regularly is, ya know, you guys and the fic. And Jack and Sawyer are nice to look at. I scheduled a class on wednesday - a year ago, I wouldn't have even considered that. This is probably repetitive cause I'm too lazy to read other people's comments, but how am I supposed to care about any of this when they so obviously don't.

Course they could turn that all around and make me all excited again come February. Maybe it's just an out of sight out of mind situation? I guess what it boils down to is that right now, I don't really miss it much. I find it sad that I don't find that sad.

yeah, I'm just gonna blame this comment on my current state of mind, I'm sure everything'll be all shiny in about a month.

also, I meant to use an appropriate icon and stuff.
