Lost: Through the Looking Glass polls

Poll #990598 Lost: Through the Looking Glass

Rate "Through the Looking Glass"

Great, it kinda blew my mind!
Good, I enjoyed it for the most part
Okay, it didn't completely blow
Meh, I want my money back!

Did you suspect that it was a flash forward and not a flash back?

Yes, but only because I was spoiled
Yes, because I couldn't reconcile the timeline
No, I was sure it was a flashback
Actually, I thought it might all be a Room-inspired hallucination!

So, Jack's comment about Christian being "upstairs" was:

A morbid little joke on his part
A red herring to throw us off that this was set in the future
A sign of just how fucked-up he is
Proof that this is an *alternate* future where Christian really is alive!
A reference to Christian being in heaven now. (As if!)

Surprisingly hot!
OMG, someone get a razor!

So, who was that in the coffin?

Someone else
I don't know and I'm pissed they never told us!

Who is the "he" Kate needs to get back to?

Someone else

Seriously, what are your thoughts on the flash-foward?

Cool! Just like a future fic!
Wow, what a great twist!
So we're never going to find out about Jack's time with the Others?
Lame! Why tune in if we know how it all ends up?
I suspect it's *a* future and not *the* future
So the series finale might be them going back to the island?
I'm cautiously waiting to see where this all leads.
I think it's all in Jack's mind...

Are Naomi's people evil?

Yes, it would appear that Ben is telling the truth for once
Yes, the laws of drama kinda demand that they are
No. They're going to rescue everyone and it'll be great! (Except for Jack, who will turn suicidal.)
That would be entirely too straightforward, wouldn't it?

Did Charlie really have to sacrifice himself?

No! *sobs*
Yes! You can't milk the audience like that forever!
Yes, because Desmond's predictions = 100% accurate.

Moment that made you cheer the loudest:

Hurley to the rescue!
Sayid can kill with his feet!
Jack tells Kate he loves her
Juliet kisses Jack
Juliet asks Sawyer if *he's* sleeping with Jack
Jack punches the living daylights out of Ben
Alex & Danielle bond over tying up Ben
Locke lives!
Sayid, Jin & Bernard ... not dead!
Sawyer gives Kate the cold shoulder for once!
Something else

The slashiest moment:

Desmond and Charlie's farewell
Sayid makes Jack promise to keep going to the radio tower
Jack loses it, thinking Sayid is dead
Jack respects Sawyer's decision to go back
Jack defends Sawyer to Kate (that was what he was doing, right?)

So, Juliet's not evil:

I knew it!
I don't care, I still don't like her.
*revives Jack/Juliet fic machine*
Hang on, there's still time

I need answers to these burning questions:

What Jack did during his week with The Others
Who the hell was in the coffin!
WTF is Jacob?
Why Charlie had to die
Who Naomi is working for
How *do* they end up getting rescued?
The bird that talked to Hurley in the *last* finale!
Something else

Damn, who's more unkillable?

The Energizer Bunny
The liquid metal Terminator. Yeah, can he be in S4?

So ... planning on tuning into Season 4?

You know it!
Yes, just for fandom's sake. *sighs*
Are you kidding? No!

Hon, you totally missed the slashiest moment! It was Sawyer going back to save Sayid, even though he had no weapon because he just loves him so damn much! ;)
May. 24th, 2007 07:58 am (UTC)
Oh shit! I don't know what happened! I HAD a Sawyer/Sayid moment in there after Sawyer appreciates Sayid's Feet of Death, I think, they exchanged this very loaded glance. Dammit. You're right, that totally wins!
May. 24th, 2007 05:19 pm (UTC)
Oh yes, the Loaded Look of Love! Squee! Those two make such a great team. And Sayid is maybe the only one who won't freak out at Sawyer going darkside, since it's already pretty familiar territory to him.
May. 25th, 2007 02:47 pm (UTC)
Sayid understands Sawyer! Man, with Sawyer and Jack potentially going dark side, S4 looks a whole lot more promising. Now if they can just manage to keep the soap opera het romance storylines at a minimum! (But at least they do throw us slashers the odd bone! ;D)

I freaking screamed when Charlied died. Even though I knew it was going to happen, I still got emotional.
May. 25th, 2007 02:46 pm (UTC)
I thought I'd gone through all my mourning in the Charlie ep but this really got me again. It's kind of sad the focus wasn't on him any longer and it was almost an afterthought to the whole episode. And still unnecessary, I think. *sigh*

I'm pretty much convinced that the rest of the show is gonna deal in changing the past through interfering with flashbacks. If that's not what they wanted me to infer from the Desmond episode, then... er, why have it at all? :D
May. 25th, 2007 02:45 pm (UTC)
You know, time travel is the one sci-fi plot I find really intriguing. foxxcub violently disagrees with me! I really liked the Desmond fb ("Flashes," not "Catch 22," which I mostly ff-ed through), so I've liked that idea ever since they introduced it. It does give them a lot of wiggle room and would hopefully cut down on the number of new island characters they feel the need to introduce every year.

I've always wondered why they bring in more new people on the island instead of in the flashbacks, where the possibilities are endless. That's never made much sense to me, especially since we've seen the flashback characters over and over and over and over until I'm sick of so many of them! But then again, I've often wished the show were really just about survival and not so much about island mysteries so clearly I'm out of sync with them there.

Well the coffin looked tiny ;) so it cant be Sawyer even though i can see no one coming to his funeral *nods* Though I can see Charlie escaping alive, he would just have to run very fast with Desmond and swim to surface. Sawyer seemed just as suicidal as flashfoward jack. I'm glad there make Sawyer even colder and more isolated, I was really freaked that they would suddenly make him happy and normal but it's more likely that he'll be how he is now walked around like he has nothing left to look for, cause hell he's been driven by something for 28 years and now he is nothing left to 'fight' fore, no one left to hunt.

May. 24th, 2007 01:01 pm (UTC)
I disagree; people would go to Sawyer's funeral. I can't imagine Kate not going: she's too loyal -- her seeking out her mother even after she betrayed her is an example of this. And besides, Claire would go. Personally I think it was a character we don't really know yet, maybe one of the Others if anyone.

I do agree with you about Sawyer, though. It was so well done, I'm happy with his hollowness because of the consistency and that the writers have the same understanding of Sawyer as I do, but wow it was painful to watch.
I chose to interpret Kate's comment regarding a "he" worrying about her as Sawyer. Perhaps he overattaches himself to Kate as an aftereffect.
May. 25th, 2007 06:00 pm (UTC)
I'm liking their taking Jack and Sawyer in a dark direction. *nods*

And I thought the coffin looked normal size! BTW, someone capped that newspaper clipping from the ep. eponine119 made a post about it. It looks like it's someone we haven't met yet.
May. 24th, 2007 12:57 pm (UTC)
I had to choose mulitple answers of some of those, sorry. I can't decide how I'm feeling about the episode in general, or about Lost in general. That was a seriously intense finale! My heart hurts.
May. 25th, 2007 02:41 pm (UTC)
It was a lot to process. I know a lot of people are mourning the loss of Charlie. I would have gladly traded several still-living people (Ben, Juliet, Mikhail) to keep him.

I liked the flash forward but I know it didn't work for everyone.

And LOL at your icon!
May. 24th, 2007 01:11 pm (UTC)
I was thinking it was Locke in the casket..but today I'm thinking it's Juliet, seeing as I'm convinced that was her sister that got into the accident near Jack when he was on the bridge.
May. 24th, 2007 02:34 pm (UTC)
This is exactly what I was thinking. And that actually gives us a rough timeline for how far in the future it was, too.
May. 25th, 2007 02:39 pm (UTC)
I imagine they'd hold off on the funeral until the sister was out of the hospital, if that was the case!
May. 24th, 2007 03:30 pm (UTC)
Hahah! I guess you and I are the only ones that like lumberJack (As my SO referred to him last night).

I need beard icons!
May. 25th, 2007 02:39 pm (UTC)
LOL, we are definitely in the minority! I was just so happy to see Jack being Jack again and not this weird, grinning, shell of Jack who had probably been brainwashed and spent all his waking time with Juliet instead of anyone else. I hope we never see that guy again!
May. 24th, 2007 11:15 pm (UTC)
Blew my mind despite some serious shortcomings; no, because I am stupid; no clue; DEAR GOD, MAKE IT STOP, MY EYES, MAKE IT STOP; don't actually care, and suspect that the writers may not have committed to anyone in particular, at least not definitively; probably someone else, but same as previous; *a* future and not *the* future, and I'll admit to disliking both the idea and the execution, although that's just me; drama and Lost writing rules demand that they be evil, but Ben remains a lying piece of scum; in hindsight, there were probably ways it could have been prevented, but reasonable foresight on Charlie's part (or Desmond's) wouldn't necessarily have allowed for any of them; there are enough unanswered, canon-posed questions left for Juliet to be evil, regardless of Ben (who may or may not be right in judging her motivations; his information about her situation is incomplete); Jack and the Others - the writers are in danger of dropping the ball on this one; all of them; with Sayid, Rousseau, Alex, Desmond, and Sawyer (and possibly even Jin, if the writers remember him) in the picture, wild horses couldn't keep me from it.

Unless, of course, I change my mind about any of the above. ;)
May. 25th, 2007 02:37 pm (UTC)
Whoa, that was a lot of stuff smooshed together in one long sentence!

At least there are less Others for next season. That's something, although I wouldn't ever miss Ben or Juliet if they'd eaten a bullet. And I'd much, much rather have bid adieu to Locke than Charlie. :-/

Did you see eponine119's post about the newspaper clipping? It seems to be someone we haven't met yet. I, for one, am curious about the chain of events that leads to Jack's being so fucked-up.
May. 25th, 2007 02:47 pm (UTC)
A girl needs a run-on sentence once in a while; they're good for the soul. Plus, if I ever need to hold my breath for four and a half minutes, I'll have had practice. Or I could, theoretically, if I ever tried to say it all out loud.

Ben and Juliet so need to die. I really want to see them get eaten by the Dharma shark. Although I also want Sayid and Jin to wrestle the Dharma-shark and win... maybe Ben and Juliet should get eaten by Richard. Or a leftover polar bear. Or something.

Ah, Jeremy Bentham... the chain of events leading to Jack's dissolution could be interesting in theory, but I have a suspicion that the show would really frell them up in practice. Or they would frell up the group/island dynamic. I guess I'm just nervous about excessive, heavy-handed flash forwards. I think my main issue/fear is LumberJack's traumatic, horrible beard. That probably accounts for about 80% of it.
May. 25th, 2007 02:52 pm (UTC)
I remain in the minority for liking the beard! I think because it was part of his whole fucked-up state (and so very JacBauer of him!) And because for the first time all season, Jack was really Jack again, at least the Jack I fell in love with, not this possibly brainwashed, distant stranger. I LOATHED both Jack flashbacks we got before this. First we get stalker boy and then the ridiculous kite flying and ... gah! This was a vast improvement, as far as I'm concerned.

Juliet --- I don't *hate* her but I sure don't like her much and I don't see what she adds to the show. Ben I grew tired of a long, long time ago, just like Sylar on Heroes. A little creepy, breathy villainy goes a long way, you know?

As far as the flash forwarding of Lost, well, we are talking about D&C, so for everyone one thing they do right, I'm sure they'll do about four more wrong.
May. 26th, 2007 12:36 am (UTC)
Oh no, your last poll for this season! I'll miss them!

I am probably very naive, because almost everything in this ep surprised me, aside from Locke and Sayid/Jin/Bernard not being dead - I expected that. As Alias taught me: nobody is dead until you see the dead body (and maybe even later, lol!). The most surprising but cool thing was the flashforward...Completely unexpected for me. I so love not being spoiled!!

I'll add one thing to the "cheer" list: Danielle punching Ben as he was trying, again, to manipulate Locke! Go Danielle!

And I'm so worried that could be Sawyer's coffin... It would explain why Jack thought about calling Kate, first thing. As for the name being different, if Sawyer was on the run, it could have been simply an alias. As a con man, he would have to use one. And Kate, wasn't she supposed to be either on the run or in prison? I solved this one thinking that maybe the man she said she has to go back to, he could be simply her parole officer or something like that...

Anyway, I absolutely loved this, and I hope we will keep reading/writing fics and actively discussing this season and its future development until next season premiere (this will be a really long wait anyway, but maybe this way I could bear with it better... *sighs*).

May. 26th, 2007 12:43 am (UTC)
Aww, I forgot about the Danielle punch! :) I adored her and Alex bonding -- finally!

I don't think that was Sawyer in the coffin, although it could be him using an alias. I think that'll be a new character since someone studied the cap and came up with the name "Jeremy Bentham" (which I just posted about since it's a historical figure, another philosopher, actually.)

I really liked the flash forward too and I'm SO glad I wasn't spoiled. I had been reading spoilers right and left up though "The Man Behind the Curtain" because I was so disillusioned and upset about Jack acting so oddly but I'm really glad I didn't get completely spoiled! It made it a lot more enjoyable to watch. They always manage to come up with a good finish, despite the ups and downs of each season. At least, that's my 2¢!

Slashiest moment:

Sawyer: So are you sleepin' with the doc yet?
Juliet: No, are you?
