Torchwood, "Countrycide"

I feel like I just inadvertently sat through a movie I never wanted to see, like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This is really Torchwood's equivalent of SPN's "humans are way more fucked-up and dangerous than any monster" ep, The Benders. Except this was much, much more disturbing. GAH! At least it was honestly scary, unlike the "fairies are evil and might choke you to death with rose petals" thing last week, which wasn't the least bit scary.

And so ... Gwen & Owen? I can't say I'd go for himself, but lord, who doesn't love a nursing/medical scene as sex/foreplay? And I get that she'd need someone to be with who can understand what she's been through, I just wish it were Jack! Or if only Owen were played by Steven Mackintosh, who he only vaguely reminds me of. Of course, this pairing has been hinted at for quite some time already, so I was sure they were going to go in another direction since it was so obvious!

Still with the Ianto/Jack, with neither of them admitting that their last kiss was each other. Hmmmm. I'm still not finding Ianto hot or, frankly, very bright. I think the only slightly dim TV character I've ever found hot is Boone Carlisle! But then again, he was played by Ian Somerhalder, who just is too, too damn pretty and can do a very nice glower and pout, as well as look completely confused! Anyway, I don't really dislike Ianto, he just doesn't do much of anything for me. Although when he tries to make Gwen feel bad for not remembering Lisa, hello! It's good she forgot about your giant fuck-up and you are NOT allowed to mope over your lost lover to your coworkers, when they were nearly all killed by your lover. Right? That must be in an etiquette book somewhere.

And also, ha with the breasterific Tosh running through the forest while handcuffed and in a very tight tank top. Although also, fuck, scary. These guys got way more messed with than most shows allow, except maybe X-Files or SPN.

ETA: This reminded me quite a bit of the excellent British werewolf flick, "Dog Soldiers," which I can't recommend enough. I'm usually not a fan of anything so gory, but it's just so GOOD. And now I want to go watch it again! Clearly I'm better with beast-on-human gore than human-on-human!

Have yet to watch any Monday night TV, but it's tucked away safely in the TiVo.

I've been waiting for you to post about Torchwood...after a little poking around, it seems as though liking Gwen is rare and shipping Jack/Gwen is even rarer still. I was spoiled, so I knew Gwen/Owen was coming (so to speak ;)but I really didn't mind it like I thought I would. I did feel a little bad for Tosh, since she seems to be crushing on Owen a bit. Oh, and did it seem to you as though Jack wasn't real happy with G/O? Maybe a little jealousy flitting across the face when Owen said he had Gwen after removing the buckshot? Maybe that's my wishful thinking...

You know, now that I think of it...I really need to stop shipping. I can't look back over any of my tv watching and think of one single couple that I shipped that ended happily. That even extends to way back before I knew what shipping was. {sigh}

It's funny but Gwen and Jack are really the only characters I like</i> on the show. The rest don't have much of a personality, apart from Owen, who is funny but not exactly hot. So shipping Gwen and Jack (who have a lot of chemistry and longing, I think), makes perfect sense to me. I can see the Jack/Ianto but I don't think I'll ever get excited by it. Since I'm watching so late, I don't really think I'll get into fandom, especially if I'm so out of sync!

And yeah, shipping can make a show better but it can also wreck it for you. There's a lot of shows I watch where I'm not very invested. And the ones where I am invested, there's always fic to fix it so ... I guess it's not a huge problem, per se! I am very annoyed by certain pairings, like George/Izzie on GA but that's mostly because they've made me hate her.

Oh, and yes, Jack did seem a bit jealous of Owen, or at least disapproving.
