And here's that 2007 fic writing meme:
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Probably about the same as last year, a little over 50 fics.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2007?
I wrote two Grey's Anatomy fics (one Mark/Derek and one very silly Lost crossover fic with Jack and Derek being brothers -- but of course!); a Drive fic, one for 3:10 to Yuma and one Nicky/Jason Bourne ficlet. As for Lost fics, Jack being so strange and distant in S3 led me to a number of new pairings, including a Sawyer/Desmond (Warm Beer), and me finally tackling Sawyer/Sayid, a pairing that had always eluded me before. I wrote a Boone/Charlie fic (Maybe This Christmas), but I had the idea/gotten the prompt about a year ago and I'd previously written a Boone/Shannon/Charlie fic so it's not that much of a leap, I suppose. Oh, and I wrote a Sam/Boone SPN/Lost fic (Therapy) for emiliglia, which was fun.
What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
I am very happy with the Sawyer/Kate ficlet White Wings, especially as it inspired such lovely artwork by deej240z! I'm also proud of how the Sayid ficlet Never and the post finale happy ending Jack/Sawyer As Sure as the Sun turned out. And I'm rather in love with hooker!Sawyer and broken!Jack in The Mix-Up. That's another fic that had its genesis over a year ago and I'm very happy I did finally write it.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
Yes, I wrote a lot of characters I'd never written before and that was very rewarding. And whenever I write something that isn't Jack/Sawyer, I'm glad I ventured out of my little OTP rut!
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
Wrap up The Bachelor! And the Jack/Kevin fic, Protection.
Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe:
I started a Lost/Oz crossover fic (that will never be finished), Payback, and I think that scared off most Lost fans, even though the one (and only) chapter was predominantly Jack/Sawyer, with only a small appearance by Chris Keller.
Probably Make Love, Not War, inspired by a "Parent Trap" prompt(!), with a very bratty Sawyer and Jack locked up together and finally realizing why they've been annoying each other so much. And I had a lot of fun plotting out The Bachelor fic and incorporating all the minor female characters in ways that mirrored real life contestants. Of course, that fic's gotten a whole lot more angsty and serious as it's progressed! I'm actually thrilled that people have stuck with it through its rather schizophrenic sea change!
Some of the luau fics were rather tossed-off, like Steve McQueen Never Wore a Motorcycle Helmet. I had much more planned out, including Jack and Sawyer visiting a great (real) motorcycle bar in San Francisco, which is why I set it there but I didn't end up doing that. I am also sorry I never finished the WWII fic I started for foxxcub's birthday over a year ago!
I think the two role-playing Jack/Sawyer pirate fics, Silk and Out of the Rain.
Story With a Single Sexy Moment:
It's not that sexy, maybe, but I'm very fond of the moment in The Bachelor series where a drunken Sawyer kisses Jack behind the ear and he doesn't quite know what to make of it. I always enjoy building romantic tension and I think that's one of my favorite "is there something going on or not?" moments.
Hardest to Write:
My Lost Horror Stories fic, Speak of the Dead. I got hopelessly stuck for quite a while and nearly chucked it, but I'm pleased with how it turned out, especially as it's my first Claire-centric fic and the whole thing was a real change of pace for me.
Most Unintentionally Telling:
Possibly Guardian, where Kate and Jack end up raising Aaron. I share Kate's antipathy towards motherhood but I still feel quite maternal at times towards various kids and I think if I were entrusted with one, I'd be just as protective as I wrote her here.
