THIS is not good. :-(

The bubble in social networking has burst, decisively. LiveJournal, the San Francisco-based arm of Sup, a Russian Internet startup, has cut about 20 of 28 employees — and offered them no severance, we're told.

Yikes! That is not good for the employees, nor is it a good sign for us.

There's a link to a back up procedure on my journal in the comments from my post today.

How does it make you feel as a perm account holder? BC I know my first thought was I was glad I hadn't given in and bought one.

I think free users will just have to see more ads, what do you think? I haven't looked too far into the ramifications, tbh. Probably a resell for LJ in the future?

I actually didn't pay for my perm account! But still, I would very much hate to lost it! I just hope they don't pull the plug.

I won't panic, but I NEED MY LJ..seriously, I'm not on facebook..and that place doesn't even seem 1/4 fun as lj.

Woah, that's not good at all. :/ I don't think they would actually pull the plug and shut everything down, but I'm backing stuff up just in case. ://

I've heard some people saying the numbers are more like 13 employees let go with 17 remaining but... Yeah, this doesn't look very good. Where do you think people will migrate to if LJ implodes? GreatestJournal? I think I have an account there.

What struck me about the article -- besides a big black wave of depression and worry -- is how they said "the weakest of the herd" and "other obscure sites." LJ, the weakest of the herd? Obscure? I hardly think so. As they say, LJ is full of rabid fans who rely on LJ as the place to air their obsessions. Not to mention the fact that largely because of that ^^^, we make friendships that we also rely on. How much of that would we lose if we lost LJ? Surely, if there's any way the users can stop it from going under, we'll find a way. *grasps for a sliver of hope*

And, I just bought a permanent account. *curses*
