More Music - Live Aid nostalgia

Who else is old enough to remember Live Aid? (looks around. OK ... maybe two of you).

I combed through my iTunes to see what songs I had that were performed at the original Live Aid in 1985. I came up with 19 songs from the UK show and 16 from the US show. Here is a complete playlist of what was performed by who and at which venue: http://www.live-aid.info/ (select "Who Played What")

The songs I'm including here are the original album cuts, not recordings from the concert. At the concert, a few solo artists performed songs from bands they were in, for example Sting sang Police songs, Eric Clapton sang "Layla," which was originally recorded by Derek and the Dominos, Mick Jagger sang Rolling Stones tunes and Paul McCartney sang "Let it Be," which wrapped up the London show.

I put these in the order they were performed. Also keep in mind that some US artists performed in the UK and vice versa, so Duran Duran and Simple Minds are in the US group. Also, a footnote: Phil Collins was the only artist to play both shows. He played in London then hopped a plane to Philadelphia and performed again. That's dedication! ;-D And if you're wondering how Mick Jagger could be in two places at once, "Dancing in the Street" was pre-recorded.

These are all either m4a files or mp3 files, fyi. Both songlists are stuffed with Stuffit. Free expander at http://www.stuffit.com.

Wow, I had no idea you were local!

Back to Live Aid, I remember staying up all night long with my vcr, so that I could tape the acts I wanted to see...Adam Ant, The Boomtown Rats, Paul Young, U2, Bowie..etc.

I do still have the tape somewhere out in my garage, but my garage is a scary, scary place.
